Every 3rd Saturday, the Paluxy River Bluegrass Association and Oakdale Park host a free bluegrass stage show with a series 3 local/regional bands performing from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. From November through March the show is in the Convention Center. From April through October it is at the Park’s Outdoor Stage.
The Paluxy Pickers almost always perform. The other two bands vary from month to month. When the show is outdoors, please remember to bring chairs. Friday night and all day Saturday, there are usually some jam sessions going on in the Park.
Bluegrass music has been a regular feature at Oakdale Park since 1972. A 1982 Texas Senate Resolution declared that “the Oakdale Park Bluegrass Festivals…have made Glen Rose the Bluegrass Capital of Texas.” The resolution noted that the “5,000 and more people attending these festivals on the Oakdale grounds leave standing room only” and that legendary bluegrass musicians such as “Lester Flatt, Chubby Wise, Mack Wiseman, Grandpa Jones and many others” have performed at Oakdale.
Y’all come and be part of the tradition.
